These terms cover the TerrainScouter mapping and weather tools, including the SMS weather service. By using them you agree to what follows.

The SMS weather service

You text our service number with your coordinates, and we reply with a short weather forecast for that location, drawn from the US National Weather Service (NOAA). The service is entirely user-initiated — we only ever reply to a message you send. We do not send marketing or promotional texts.

Message frequency: one reply per request. You control how often you text us.
Cost: we do not charge per message. Message and data rates may apply from your own mobile carrier or satellite provider.
Opt out: text STOP at any time and we will stop replying.
Help: text HELP, or email the address below.
Carriers: mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Coverage

NOAA forecast data covers the United States only. Requests for locations outside US coverage will return a message saying so.

Safety notice. Weather forecasts, terrain maps, elevation data and cell-coverage estimates are provided for general information only. They are predictions and models, not guarantees, and they can be wrong or out of date. Do not rely on this service as your only source of information for decisions affecting safety or life. Always carry appropriate equipment, and carry a dedicated emergency beacon or satellite communicator in remote country. This service is not an emergency service and cannot be used to summon help.

Acceptable use

Use the service for its intended purpose. Do not attempt to overload, disrupt or reverse-engineer it, resell access without permission, or use it for anything unlawful. We may apply reasonable rate limits, and may suspend access that is abusive or that threatens the service for others.

Availability

We aim to keep the service running but do not guarantee uptime. It depends on third-party services — NOAA, mapping and elevation providers, messaging carriers — any of which may be unavailable. Features may change or be withdrawn.

Data

How we handle your information is described in our Privacy Policy.

Government data used by this service — including NOAA weather, USGS topographic maps and elevation, and FCC tower records — remains subject to the terms of those providers. Their data is used as published and is not modified beyond the processing needed to display it.

Liability

The service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss, injury or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, this service or the data it presents.

Changes

These terms may be updated; the current version is always on this page with its date.
